pdf World Development Report 2012: Gender Equality and Development An Opportunity Both Welcome and Missed (An Extended Commentary) (2012)

Razavi’s Extended Commentary explores the missed opportunity in the World Bank’s 2012 World Development Report to more thoroughly consider the “gender biases of macroeconomic policy agendas that define contemporary globalization.” (pg. 2). She contends that the Bank’s current paradigm privileges growth as the singular component of development. Such a perspective both narrows the potential of development planning, programming and policy making and ultimately hampers its ability to “confront gender equality in the 21st Century” (pg. 2).
