Plans
for the Beijing +5 Review:
"Women
2000: Gender Equality, Development and Peace for the 21st
Century"
|
|
| The
primary goal of the Center for Women's Global Leadership's
(Global Center) work leading up to the Beijing + 5 review
will be to advance a feminist human rights perspective
through reflection, mobilization and action. |
|
- Rights
Based Analysis of the Beijing +5 Review
|
|
The
Global Center will coordinate and distribute a working
paper, in collaboration with a small international committee,
that will articulate a feminist rights-based approach
to the Beijing review and beyond. The paper will be the
basis for a global discussion which will be held on-line.
These discussions will begin with the Claim Women's
Human Rights discussion on WomenWatch, http://www.un.org/womenwatch/forums/beijing5/hrights/hrights.htm
(8 November 1999 - 17 December 1999) and will continue
on WhrNet, http://www.whrnet.org
throughout the review process.

to ensure the strongest possible articulation of a commitment
to advancing women's human rights in the proceedings of
the ECE. For

women's human rights in advocacy efforts to support a strong
rights based approach to the Beijing + 5 review by the US
government. Through its alerts and website it will encourage
the broad participation of US women's groups in assessing
the US government's record of meeting its commitments to
the Beijing Platform for Action and is participating
in some of the US regional preparatory meetings.

- Women's
Human Rights Symposium - June 4, 2000
|
|
This
major symposium will provide the opportunity for public
and collective reflection on women's human rights concepts
and advocacy over the past 10 years. Veteran activists whose
work has helped to formulate and operationalize a feminist
human rights approach will present their view of key challenges
for the future along with new and emerging voices in the
global women's human rights network. The goal of the symposium
will be to elaborate visions and identify challenges and
strategies for the next decade. |
