Lydia Cacho Ribiero

Lydia Cacho Ribiero

Mexico
Feminist and Investigative Journalist

Lydia is an investigative journalist, a feminist and a leading defender of women’s and children’s rights in Mexico. As a result of her media exposes regarding child pornography and murders of women in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez, Lydia has been arrested, detained, harassed, and assaulted while in custody. Even amidst repeated threats to her life, Lydia has brought a court case before the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice to challenge government officials. A recipient of the Francisco Ojeda Award for Journalistic Courage, Lydia has been deeply involved with programs that help children deal with the impacts of emotional and physical abuse, as well as those that address non-violent conflict resolution.
